I don't think he will get far with that, anyone in their right mind knows that you only have to show a Freelander a wet lawn and it will go into reverse

Good job there was no sue culture in the 60's-80's otherwise LR owners would have launched legal proceedings as their vehicles don't go on road properly.

We went on the high speed track while at Gaydon this
year and saw  the new Freelander going hell for
leather on the off road section......Maybe now it's a bit
beefier it likes a little mud under it's arches  :)  :)

:(biglaugh):  :(biglaugh):  :(biglaugh):

EDIT:  Wait a minute.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that Freelander has traction control then shouldn't that spinning wheel stop spinning quickly and as a result the other wheels should get suffecient power to get it out of that ditch?

Yep, and normally, the viscous coupling should get you out of there. Maybe he got a lemon???

Mo, he just needs to learn how to use the viscous coupling - if you watch the clip, he backs off the power as soon as the wheel starts spinning.

With the viscous coupling, it takes a short time for the fluid inside to heat up and harden - so if a wheel starts spinning, you should actually up the revs to speed up the hardening process and transfer drive to the rear.

Any 4x4 will get stuck if you don't know how to drive it!

Alaric.

And Alaric wins the latest "Spot the idiocy" competition.

To be honest, I hadn't noticed it on the video, but that is exactly what he is doing. He let's go of the gas before the viscous coupling has had time to operate.

Guess someone is going to be losing his house, then.

I too have not seen the clip because I dislike 'realplayer' but it does sound like another idiot spending too much money on a tool that has far more intelligence than the owner.

When will people learn that just because it has 4x4 it does not mean it is able to climb mountains, the other side of this weird and wonderful coin is that the driver is under skilled.

I only say this because I have been fortunate/unfortunate to have driven the ‘freeloader’ off-road and to be honest it does quite well when driven correctly.

Good luck to that man for trying to loose all his money suing a massive company, I can only assume he is suing on the grounds that it is unfit for purpose or even worse maybe he is an anti 4x4 type who wants to prove some sort of point either way all this will do is inflame an already dubious debate about 4x4 ownership.

On a different note my neighbor has recently bought a Daewoo korando and was flapping his gums about its inability to tow his caravan off of a muddy field stating he only bought it to tow his caravan.  I did I hasten to add mention to the neighbor that had he got more that mere slick road tyres on his new purchase it might go some way to help him tow his caravan off said muddy field in addition to this I have offered to take him out laning for an afternoon so as he might be able to ‘hone’ his skills at driving off-road. :?

When will people realise  a 4x4 is for life not just for muddy days.
