For my next trick....

George the Disco:
I'll be replacing the swivels thanks to the swivel replacement kit from Paddocks, setting the preload, rebuilding the drop arm ball joint and changing the front brake pads (I wonder why  ). All so that George will pass his next MOT due in late October.

Does anyone have any experience of doing the above and if so what advice can you give me?

Normal stuff really, but worth a mention :

Try to work in a clean environment.  Bearings don't like grit and dust

Especially when re-assembling, make sure you concentrate on getting the order of components right.  It's easy to forget a seal or washer than means you have to take it all apart again..  BTDT :-(

Make sure you use a torque wrench for tightening things up.

George the Disco:
Cheers for that and the blue mud club sticker that I picked up on saturday.

Anyone else have any recommendations?

Chris

strapping young lad:
use bailcast one shot grease

made in chorley incidentally

fill and forget basically

had mine done 18mnths ago and its fine

muddyweb:
Any reason for Bailcast particularly ?

I use the normal LR stuff in the 90.  (About 3 quid a side)

Another tip... give yourself plenty of time !!   If this is the first time you've done the job, there may well be a few nuts/bolts that could cause you grief.

Oh, and don't do it on a Sunday when the shops are closed :-)
