Changing a wheel bearing

(1/2) > >>

gords:
OK, other than the the wheel bearings (inner + outer?), what else is needed?

I bought a load of stuff when we did a European drive last year - and I think I've got 2 x "wheel bearing kit", but I'm not sure if I have everything I need   So, could someone list the parts needed per wheel please.

I assume the front and rears are the same? I'll be doing the rear ones though.

davidlandy:
hub oil seal

and perhaps a drive member gasket - but not essential

burgerman:
Howdy , I have a ten ton press in my garage (addres witheld for obvious reasons) if you should require it, i have done many on mine just with an asssortment of hammers, punches ect,  but if ya get stuck the offer is there.  P.S i cant accept the whole vehicle ,as the neighbours would probally trip out if another landy turned up, but if you strip it out n get stuck send me a p.m , kinda busy most of the time but can usually find time to keep both our vehicles rolling, the offer is there if required, best wishes

Mace:
As Dave said above, per wheel

2 X WHEEL BEARINGS FTC4382
1 X BEARING SEAL FTC4785
1 X TAB WASHER FTC3179 - not essential, save money and flatten & re-use old one
1 x OUTER FLANGE GASKET - not essential if old one is ok or use a thin smear of silicone sealant

+ Bearing grease of course

Don't forget you'll also need circlip pliers if you're doing the fronts and a HUB SPANNER for the hub bearing nuts.

Range Rover Blues:
Depending on model year there are 2 oil seals, inner and outer.  Except the inner goes on the outside but it's separting the axle oil and the hub grease (the outer, which is inside the hub protects the grease from mud/water.

If your car has ABS then the inner seal is replaced by an oil seal inside the stub axle.

Oh and the inner is inside out, [!Expletive Deleted!] to fit, and the outer one should be 4mm below the surrounding metal which is very hard to do without a special tool, file a 4mm step into a narrow piece of bar and use as a drift.
