265/75 r16 on a 7 16 rim????

<< < (2/3) > >>

v8kenny:
Be very carefull - although 265/75 will fit on a 7" rim they are in fact illegal and MUST be fitted to an 8" rim
If you have an accident with this combo of wheels and tyre then you are very unlikely to get an insurance payout and if the fuzz get involved they will throw the book at you
Remember 4 tyre offences = 4 x 3 points = goodbye license !
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!
All this info was given to me by a reputable tyre company backed up by Pirellies website which clearly tells you NOT to fit their 265/75's onto 7" rims
255/85's are OK on 7" rims
Ask around - GOOD tyre companies will give you this advice FOC - the not so good will probably just want a sale !

Wolfie:
Pirelli may not reccomend their 265/75 x 16 tyre  be fitted to a 7" rim but the Pirelli and the BF Goodrich tyre are different designs and BF Goodrich do approve this combination. See http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/mud_terrain_ta_km.pdf for the BF Goodrich tyre specification sheet.

Have had 265/75 x 16 BFG MTs on 7" rims for the last 100,000 miles with no problems, the last set fitted by Andy Sergeant who knows quite a bit about these tyres. Only considering a change for the next set as I'm quiyte impressed with the Matadors that I have on the racer.

Regards

Wolfie

imspanners:
I've got 265/75r16 on 7" RR vogue Alloys.
It has got a 2" lift and had the "camel cut" too.

v8kenny:
I'm not saying they don't fit or cause any problems - what I am saying is there MAY be legal and safety issues running them on 7" rims as it seems to be a bit of a grey area depending on which manufacturer / fitter you speak to
By all means fit whatever tyres to whatever wheels you want
Due to possible safety issues I'll not bother fitting 265's to my 7" wheels thank you very much
Oh - and don't run into me with them on or I will sue your ass off !

:-k  Oo now, to be fair to Wolfie, it was stated that the 265 / 7" combo would be illegal, which isn't wholly the case.

I think the problem there is, which V8Kenny has already pointed out above, is that if you do something the manufacturer doesn't recommend, then there could be problems. But in the case of the BFGs and 7" rims, there is no legal issue.

If anyone runs into me, I think I'd have the right to sue regardless of tyre and wheel combination!

cheers
