Range Rover Blues:
SU carbs are a problem for LPG as the pistons still need to rise to allow the air in, the best solution is to fit piston lifters but these cost money.
Anyway, check your timing and vac advance unit, spark quality and air leaks for starters.

I would guess that '84 is going to be an EFI.
I had a similar problem on my last one, bad news is the only way I could cure it (after trying 3 MAFS from the scrap pile) was a new ECU :(
I would however try cleaning the MAF sensor first prise the top off, some meths and a rag to clean the tracks and rotor tip, reaseal the lid on with silcone.

I had a similar problem to this, turned out to be the rotor arm starting to break down and earthing through the dizzy.

if you havnt already i would change HT stuff first. then look at the fuel system.
