Settle to Carlisle

(1/2) > >>

Andy the Landy:
Set off this morning from Manchester Victoria to travel the Settle to Carlisle Railway. Left Manchester at 08.05 and arrived back at Victoria at 21.30.
Magnificent scenery including the Ribblehead Viaduct. Returning from Carlisle via the route of Hadrians Wall and the River Tyne towards Hexham. Came past that big piece of scrap metal The Angel Of The North and down the ECML to York. Top day out 8)

Engines provided by EWS Railways

Ribblehead Viaduct

Carlisle Cathederal

Gateshead scrap iron

The last time I went over there, we had a DMU of some description

Class 37, I bet you're thinking it ought to have been a '55' (or a 'Peak')

originally booked 4 months ago with Pathfinder Tours as it was going to be hauled by a '55' Deltic 55022 Royal Scots Grey but it aint quite finished yet  , but, being a double headed '37' it was an interesting racket climbing Ais Gill

Bush Tucker Man:
At least '417' has a relevant railway name
