Rear Diff to Propshaft 3 bolt to 4 bolt conversion?

(1/2) > >>

ChrisW:
I may be looking at converting the rear diff to propshaft coupling from the 3 bolt flange with a rubber donut coupler to a 4 bolt flange using a UJ.

Has anyone done this conversion? Is it simply a case of swapping the flange's or are there other parts involved? I can't see anything else other than the diff pinion may not be drilled for a split pin?

snezza69:
I understand it is just a case of replacing the flange, and aparently now the nut with the split pin had been replaced with a nylon lock nut!

That was what they told me at MM 4x4 anyway

Budgie:
Yes it is just a case of swapping the flanges & oil seals over.
Although when I did mine it set up a vibration in the rear propshaft but that was because of the +3" lift I have fitted.
I need to get some spacers for the Scorpion trailing arms to sort it.

Range Rover Blues:
I was very tempted to do the same on the LSE even though it's not lifted.  Out of interest what are you trying to cure or is it a reliability thing?

ChrisW:
Dunno really, the donut had to be replaced today but it's been on it's way out for a couple of weeks - although it's allowed me to keep driving on it whereas if it was a UJ I daresay I would have had to take the prop off by now.
I think this donut has lasted me about two years so I guess it's not too bad and the bolts where easier to do than the 9/16" nuts/bolts on a UJ coupler!
