Austin A40 Farina with a 1300cc MG lump in it. Used to go quite well, but had a habit of chewing driveshafts. Wish I still had it. :(

My first road car was a Vauxhall Victor, the one that you used to bash your knees on when getting in and out coz it had a very strange windscreen that was curved round, dunno what year it was built but I paid £20 for it in 1968, that was when you could get Four Gallons of petrol and still have change from a quid.

First car I ever DROVE was my Dad's 1980 2 door Range Rover off road on private land when we lived in Scotland. Range Rover was new and I was 13!

First car I ever owned was a Triumph Spitfire WRV 509L. Bought it as a project, did it up with a mate of mine who was in the bodyshop trade and sold it after a few months of driving everywhere with the roof down (including through London on christmas day!) and made a tidy profit!

Next was a 1976 Mini 1275 GT in black with a 1293 blueprinted cooper engine, neg camber suspension, roll cage and single 1.75 SU carb. Best fun ever on a fiver of patrol.    Sideways round roundabouts all the while! The RC40 exhaust sounded great and got through road rally scrutineering noise limits.

Then the rot set in - 1971 series 2a SWB petrol on 750 SATs in bronze green.

The rest is mainly Solihull history. Makes Dunsfold seem like amateurs!

Volvo 340GLE 1.7i, the one with the gearbox and diff combined under the boot.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

First car I drove after passing my test was a company car!    At the interview the boss said 'have you got a full licence?' 'yes' says I, 'how long have you held it?' asks the boss  'a year and a half' says I, 'Is it clean?', 'yes' says I.

Starts job, drives car home, only told him a few months later that I hadn't been able to afford a car, therefore had not driven since passing my test......

Jeez but that drive home on my own was scarey.

It was a lovely little car, 1.6 Astra in light blue.

First car I bought was a royal blue, 1.8, marina.
