Calling all for diagnosis!

My Series 1 Disco failed its MOT (equivalent) on a few point (sure you have seen some of my other posts).

One point was fluid leaking from the rear N/S brake calliper.

Ordered a repair kit for the calliper in anticipation of needing to rebuild it.

Now I  have it off there is an awful lot of grease consistency loss which too me looks too thick to be brake fluid and it does seem to be coming from inside the centre of the disk itself.

My thinking is the seal has worn in the hub, but will hold my hand up to lack of experience.

Does this sound probable?

It it an easy job?

I have removed the half shaft OK.

Will attach a couple of pics!

Also I seem to have misplaced a ring spanner that would (I think) have been perfect to remove the hub retaining nut.

Not an ideal time to be in Germany as ALL the shops are shut (EVEN A HALFRAUDS WOULD BE GOOD).  What size spanner should I be looking for?

looks like a hub seal to me, easy enough job

if you can change a wheel bearing you can do a hub seal

OK not too worried, but I need to get a spanner for the hub nut, do you happen to know the correct size in mm (as I am in Germany and that is all they deal with over here)?

Xtremeteam:
im sure its 52 mm

snezza69:
Thats cool, I measured it as that but as I was unable to place the ruler flush against the nut I needed to be sure!
