steering wobble

<< < (2/3) > >>

Ralph:
I am new here not posted anything yet.

Had the exact problem you describe changed the following with no joy at all,
Four tyres
steering damper
four shocks
four springs
complete swival kits X2
four panhard kits
discs pads X4
Gave up and sold it to a friend!!!! anyway he went out to follow the hunt and 1 mile from nearest road hit a rock and snapped the ball joint on the drop link arm changed that and bingo never wobbled again!!!!
My wobble would happen about 50mph and was extremely violent would literally bounce towards left hand side of road and allways on the same parts. Once you had passed 55-60mph would not happen even on the same stretches of road.
If it happened again would just change the front ball joints .
What annoyed me was that a land rover specialist not a main dealer but who has a good reputation wouldn't change the ball joints as he said they were perfect!!!! i have had a brief spell with a pajero but never again got a 300tdi now and she's staying!!!

Budgie:
Hi Ralph & welcome to the Mud Club.  :D

Any one of the items you changed could have caused this problem. If the suspension is raised then the problem is even more pronounced because of the steering geometry being altered by the extra length in the springs.

Elmo:
Just solved the same problem - buckled alloy wheel was the culprit.

bilge rat:
had a 200 had a bad shake , did the swivel joints, all the ball joints, radious bushes, de carbon damper, 2 new front tyres. turned out to be 2 front shockers a bit weak. replaced with gen . job done cured. can be a bit of a pig to get to the bottom of. at one point i fitted a armstrong s/damper turned out to be faulty nearly put me in a ditch, so carefull what you fit cheap aint always good. easy to check swivels, wheels off ,steering arms off get a fishing type scale and check preload it takes to move the hub ass. think its something like 14lbs built up. hope this helps. alan.......
