I am a Dad
timberdog:
Girty
Both Gills including the one i re home have Kits..I will put some up when the Gills calm down a bit otherwise Disaster..
Ferrits very easy to Keep / Train..I also work mine with all my Dogs and Fly Falcons/Hawks over Ferrits when hunting them..
Basic key is Handle them like mad..Mkae sure parents can be seen and handled as if they bite put em back..Thats a sign of lack of handling or abuse!
Check the Pens if Buying ..are they Kept clean?
The old story of Ferrits being nasty comes from Old Gamekeepers who mostly tried to starve the Ferrits to make them keen when hunting.
All my Ferrrits are introduced to all the kids from young..supervised of course..
They are also kept with eye shot of my Birds Of prey so they associate with them as mates not food!
From young get some drain pipes in their pen so they get used to going down holes..nothing worse than a hole shy Ferrit..
Handle Handle Handle..is the key..
When taking them hunting you would need about 30 Purse nets of so which are placed over Rabbits holes or somtimes i dont net the holes and used the Hawks or Dogs..
When approching Holes you make in Down wind ..little [!Expletive Deleted!] have a good sense of smell and hear you if noisy same applies..
Strange as it seems the rabbits if they hear or see Humans they woul;d sooner stay down the Hole and face the Ferrits
And this then leads to what they term as" Laying up"..Ferrits nabs Rabbit down the holes and eats till they are full and like you and me they go to sleep on the warm carcass..
This then is a waiting game till the Fat Ferrit decides to come out or you dig them out...Bloody Hard work if deep.
Thats about it really apart from Ratting with them..differant ball game all ways. ..Or extreame i had one Gill meet up with an Weasal...what a scrap!
Anyway i love Hunting with all my animals andit puts food on the table and food for the animals

We use nets sometimes but depending on the land with my little jill.We put her down and set ourselves up with the shotguns. We dont do bad either.I agree my jill loves being handled we even let her have a run round the house a couple of times a week.I had a peek into the kits today they seem to be doing quite well in the heat. I,ve put a long tray of water for her to dip in .I give her fresh cat milk at least 3 times a day .Landys Shooting and ferrets seem to go together well.

Three of the jills are polecat marking they look superb !.I,ve told my daughter that we can keep two a polecat jill and a hob.Just need more accommodation now ,and a large run.So I think this week an advert will have to go in Loot to find homes for them.
