Anyone planning on heading down to South Africa?

We are flying down in Novemeber, does that count?

We keep looking at the overland but the bit that puts me off is the band where you have to go through the Dem Rep. of Congo, Sudan or Etheopia. YOu can't avoid one of the three and none of them are very freindly at the mo. Especially as we will have a little baby very soon.

We did pretty much the same route, though instead of Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, we did Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria and Jordan to Egypt.

Good luck in Egypt, I found driving there to be a pain in the back side, it may be worse now since the recent bombings on the Sinai.

If you want some GPS way points for campsites etc. we may be able to help.

When are you planning on leaving?
We got our Sudanese Visa prior to leaving the UK, it took about 8 weeks for them to arrive,  we later found we could have got them in 24hrs in Cairo, but it's a long way to go to find you can't get them there anymore.

What's Algeria like these days it used to be a bit dodgy IIRC, but things change daily in Africa.

Have fun with it.

Early days yet, I am trying to find a few decent people to go with. My mates are too boarding to do it.

A while back now (aka before a lot of us even had cars!) me and a couple of mates were thinking of doing England- France- Belgium- Germany- Poland- Ukraine- Kazakhstan- China- Mongolia- China - Thailand- Cambodia- Malaysia.

But I think it fell apart a while back, and I'm not 100% if that was the route, that was just following Autoroute

Disco Bristol:
Parents have a house in SA hence it being the destination. Also I want to leave the car out in SA.
