Intercooler question

(1/2) > >>

barmiebrumie:
Hi, would it help if i was to fit a larger intercooler & larger pipes  :?: ,

John.

strapping young lad:
help with what?

power?

yueh but there are other factors involved methinks (fuelling etc)

barmiebrumie:
Yes power & better running, have noticed that the intercooler is small & one of the pipes seem ''squashed'', just an idea at the mo but as i work in an accident repair centre i can get larger ones that will fit in the ''gap'',

Thanks John.

nickW:
how do you mean squashed, you could get larger pipes from the air filter to the turbo, but you would have to have a larger intercooler with  larger inlets and outlets to benifet from larger pipes

ChrisW:
People like Allisport and the like supply and install bigger intercoolers.
Silicon hoses are also a good idea.
A larger intercooler on it's own will not really serve any purpose - you will also need to tweak the fueling via the injector pump to get any real gain from the cooler/denser air you are supplying and this can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing.
I think someone may have posted the link to a site with a bit more guidance on modifying the pump recently - something like Dodge Ram diesel injection pumps seems to ring a bell.

Another option is a gas injection system - I think Allisport are doing a kit for this now too.
