Hi Guys,
The trails here are excellent. Greenlanes per say aren't an issue - they're just "roads" - just that some are unused and neglected. The winter rain (doesn't last long, but when it does it falls down!) and spring run-off from the snow take quite a toll of the trails and if they're no longer required for regular access, they don't get repaired, so they're pretty interesting both in the car or on the bike.
If there's a road and no barriers, you can drive it - and there aren't many barriers in our part of the mountains.
There are a few 4x4 clubs about, but we haven't made contact yet - getting the business set up is the priority at the moment.
Gords: We can arrange hire bikes of an adequate quality, but they are basic front suspension only models. For serious cyclists we really recommend that guests bring their own bikes to get the most out of their holiday - not so much because of the quality of the bikes here, but because, for the level of riding we offer, you'll be much more comfortable on your own bike, that you've customised and adjusted to your own preferences.
Bringing your own bike on the plane is neither expensive, nor as problematic as you might think.
Kasper: We are offering 4x4 tours of the mountains on casual / word of mouth basis, but it's not something that we plan to offer on a full commercial basis.
We'll happily guide you around if you come out, but it's a bit more difficult to bring your car with you!
Alaric.
