2.25 diesel engine

(1/2) > >>

G:
I've been offered a (cheap) Lightweight with a 2.25 reconditioned diesel motor. How can I tell if it is a 3 or 5 bearing engine? Cheers, G.

Rich_P:
By the block's engine number is for definate as the block is cast with the 3 or 5 bearing setup.

G:
Thanks Steel. What am I looking for in the engine number? Is there a number that the 5 bearing started from or will it say 5B or something similar in the number?

hobbit:
Not sure but didn't the diesel only come in a 3 bearing format?

Rich_P:
G, sorry to say but I don't have a clue what the numbers would be.  I only know the numbers for the 3-bearing diesels fitted to Land Rovers during the 1960s and very early 1970s.

The later 2.25 Diesels were 5-bearing just like the later 2.25 Petrols. Just that they were not all that popular, because the 110 was soon entering production.
