Will it fit?
LANDYTIM:
Saturday afternoon I was driving down the A12 in Essex and I managed to shatter a piston in the engine, in turn this sent the conrod through the sump of the engine and made me quite a mess!
As it was a work vehicle I first thought I would put her up for sale as is due to my lack of time.
Ive now changed my mind!
so a few questions for you all now........
Is £100 for a 2.5tdi engine good? Its a runner and was only taken out due to the vehicle written off by a rear ender from a lorry....!
Will this fit in place of my 2.25 petrol?
Is it a hard conversion?
Is it easier to change the tank or just put a return pipe in?
Am I mad for taking this on?
Cheers
Tim
ian_s:
which tdi?
if its a 200tdi then its fairly easy to fit, bolts straight in apart from the exhaust
if its a 300tdi then i dont know
oh, and i just paid £180 for a defender 200tdi, so 100 seems rather reasonable
LANDYTIM:
thats good news!!
Is that straight on to the series gear box?
I've also got my hands on another old series and a 2.5 N/A - Will this fit?
ian_s:
i havent actually got round to doing it yet, but apparently it does
1 or 2 of the stud wholes dont line up, but theres plenty more that do
you need the 200tdi clutch pressure plate(i think, the bit that bolts on teh flywheel), and the series clutch disk (the bit that goes on the gearbox shaft)
and you will also need at least the intercooler, and preferably the radiator too.
I'm going to try at first with the series 3 rad, and the intercooler in front of the rad as far to the passenger side as it will go, and then see if i have any problems.
Rich_P:
Be aware that the TDi engine will kill the standard Series transmission unless you uprate it. An LT77 mated to the Series transferbox would be able to give you the strength for the transmission to last decently well...
The 200TDi doesn't go straight in without moving one engine mount, the same applies to the 2.5 N/A. £100 for a TDi is awfully cheap too, are you sure it isn't a 2.5TD? Because TDi motors usually go for £300+
