wheel movement ???

kwik.kwak:
my bro has a 96 300tdi disco, with a  3inch suspension lift kit,  then a  2 inch under suspension lift ( the kit wizard sells )  all been poly bushed, and  still the drivers side front wheel moves backwards and forwards, 1 minute its  virtually rubbing on the  edge of the rock slider, the next its 3 inches away from it, anybody any ideas at all ???? we are flumoxed :)

also my disco 300tdi (96) i have just  put a brand new head on it, new valves, new seals everything brand new, and still when i hold my foot at about 2500-3000 revs it will puther out  white/blue smoke, i have had the injectors out and had them tested all ok :) checked the timing and pump timing, again we are absoloutely flumoxed, somebody must have sum idea,s for us :)

sounds like theres movement in one of the suspension arms?  :?  there must be something loose somewhere, the front radius arm should stop any movement so i assume there would be something amiss there to give the problem you suggest

re the smoke maybe the injection pump is playing about

wizard:
Yep it sounds like a bush gone in the radius arm, thats what stops the axle from flopping about .
The only way to check the bushes is to take the arm off and have a look, if the bushes are ok maybe the bolts are shot.
Also have a look at the two rubber bushes on the rear of the radius arm.

RE smoke.
Check that the rubber diaphragm in the pump compensator hasn,t split.
This pic will point you in the right direction.

Make sure you put it back in, the same position it came out (mark it 1st)

The suspension has to be something to do with the bushes or where they attach to the axle or body. Mkae sure the ones on the chassis are seated correctly.

The smoke issue, white smoke is normaly associated with unburnt fuel from a duff injector but blue smoke is engine oil being burnt so if the injector pump doesn't sort the problem then start looking in these areas and get a compression test done on all 4 cylinders.

Also clear the engine breathers incase they are blocked and pressurising the crank case.

When are you testing the motor for smoke, while the engine is under load or stood on the drive and just revving it? I only ask cos if there is no load on the engine then the turbo isn't working so will not give an accurate account of any problems.

then engine is tested on my drive, at a constant  2500,3000 rpm, compression is spot on,  its gonna be fuel not oil thats  causing it, and it doesnt do it all throught the rev range only in one position, but like i say, injectors have been tested and are ok,  but  the people that checked the injectors did say they are 2 stage injectors and they can only test the first stage, i am pretty sure its nothing to do with the turbo,  although i wud like to  be able to test  without turbo working, is there any way ???
