Latest Internet Explorer 6 Update

Hi All,

I thought that I'd let you all in on this as it took me some time to find out what the problem was.

If you've done any Microsoft Updates in April and you use Internet Explore 6 as your main web browser, then you may have noticed that when you "mouse-over" any Java, Flash, Quciktime, Real Player or Adobe Acrobat items that use ActiveX controls then you get a box appearing around the object and "Click to activate and use this control" comes up & you can't use the control until you first click within the box.  :evil:

This is to do with the IE6 update that Microsoft has put out this month and not anything to do with your PC! It comes as part of the latest Security Update and I think you can stop this part of the update from downloading, so check the update before you download!!

There are ways round it for the designers of web sites that are quite easy to install. I followed the route that Amara Software suggest for my site, but there are others.
Likewise there are fixes for IE6 as well but all the ones I looked at would not take responsiblity for any security problems caused by the fix so I've not bothered yet.

The best way round it is to use another browser like FireFox.  :wink:

So, if you're getting this problem with your browser then it's not the fault of the site, your PC or the ActiveX controls on your PC. It's all down to Microsoft!

I have tried Firefox and I do like it. But I have also been using IE7 for about 3 months, its a lot like firefox.
