I wont leave the jack attached at night or during the week as the theiving little <mumble mumble mumble> will have it away.
What I have done though on the threaded bar I use to mount jack on is I've drilled a hole through the bar big enougth to take a padlock.
Its not the best lock in the world but it should be enougth to act as a deterant shoud someone fancy a nice new hi-lift

Had mine on the roof rack but a large tree removed the jack along with the roof rack...........so its now on the rear wheel carrier.

Range Rover Blues:
INside, it doesn't rust, get nicked, fill up with mud.  Keeps the weight as low as possible too.

Have mine in the rear foot well.
