PC sound cards

strapping young lad:
it could be something simpler like the speakers you are using to listen to have gone south for the winter

if you have a pair of headphones, plug them into the same slot the speakers plug into and see if you still hear the same noise

if not then speakers are shot, if so then you might as well buy a cheap soundcard from somewhere like scan or ebuyer as they arent that expensive nowadays

muddyjames:
my flat screen has in built rubbish speakers and i normaly use the speakers on my desk and both dont give out any sound.

I keep getting an error thing up in the device manager saying it cannot start and wont run properly. I found somewhere once that it is not digitaly signed and i have tried up dating the driver but it comes back saying there is no update higher than the one on my pc.

strapping young lad:
have you got a camera phone or something to take a picture of the rear of your pc, the picture will show if its onboard or a pci slot or isa slot

how long have you had this machine incidentally?

paul_humphreys:
It "sounds" like its on-board sound. It also looks like a driver problem. If its O/B sound you can disable it and put a sound card in.

But try updating the driver.

Paul

muddyjames:
I do have a camera phone but cant download to pc. I can text it to you if you like.

I have had this pc since January 2004 I think

It was a Staples special own and wish I had more money at the time to buy a decent one as the hard drive has died once and the cooling fans in the back have both died in the past too.
