steering box leak

(1/2) > >>

POTASH:
i have got a leak on my steering box, its coming from the input shaft does anyone know if there is a part number for it, their must be a seal kit you can get and is it hard to do :(

freeagent:
the seal kits are not worth the bother, it'll start leaknig again almost straight away..
for a short term fix chuck a capfull of brake fluid into your PAS fluid reservoir, it swells the seals and stops them leaking.

long term the answer is a new PAS box, a bit over £120 recon from lots of places, or a good second-hand one should be about £60.......

hope this helps.

beast5680:
seal kit will be about £10-£15 from most places i resealed the output shaft on mine, an awkward job but can be done , input shaft i dont know but probably have to remove the box as its not in the best place to get at
MM4x4 will do a recon box for £77+vat at the minute if you order on internet but they will surcharge £150 for the old one if you dont return it

Damonski:
Oh dear :(

I hope that can be replaced easier than the water pump ;)

freeagent:
its a straight forward job, hardest bit i found was getting the steeing column off, you need to remove all four bolts the secure the two UJ's (two on each UJ) in order to tap the column up and release it from the box... oh, and good luck getting the drop arm off. if you don't have access to a hydraulic puller order a box that comes with a new drop arm... trust me you wont regret it.
