lumpy bottom end 200tdi

i just got a 1992 dedender 200tdi miles 58k fsh.but it runs lumpy and under powered it has nowhere the pull of my 1991 disco.i just took of the intercooler pipe incase it was air probs but to no avail.could it be the pump timing.Ray
