300Tdi Timing Belt
Badlad:
I think the theory behind the 35000 mark is that very few Landies are constantly sitting on motorways and 'a' class roads. Most of the time it is stop start driving. Personally I'd rather spend a Hundred quid or so every 35000 miles than chance the price of a new engine

on joe i change the belt every 2 years roughly 30k give or take

unless you do a lot of off-road stuff 35,000 is a bit excessive. i reckon 3 years or 50K os a bit more sensible.
if it breaks it won't trash the engine, the valves go straight up and the only thing that gets damaged is the pushrods, which will bend if a piston touches a valve. the pushrods are only about £3 each though, and i think the most you can bend is four, unless you are realy unlucky...
