landroverkeith:
 just nipped into town in my partners freelander a very short journey to get fuel ready for the towcester trip whilst out the throttle stuck open at about 15000 revs then it dropped back to normal.
When we got back home the car was surrounded with thick white smoke    and engine was RED hot
Its Not using any water and theres no sludge in oil cap so b4 i have a heart attack at taking it into a garage does anyone have any ideas other than head gasket

its the dreaded 1.8 k engine btw

sounds like its drawn oil into the top of a cylinder and burnt it...... if it did, then my answer to your question sadly is No...... No ideas other than a f****d gasket / head

landroverkeith:
thanks for the info so being a total numpty in these things is that worse then head gasket ?

fudge:
What I meant was that for the oil to be there in the first place it is probably the head hasket......

landroverkeith:
well im going to buy a new gasket monday and fit it on fingers crossed that we caught it b4 heat has warped it
