TD5 Oil pumps

(1/1)

RedDisco:
I am thinking about buying a TD5, but have read lots of horror stories about the oil pump bolts coming out and the cost of repairs !!. Are they really that bad or is it just the unlucky few. Were they improved on the later ones (I would be looking at around 2003 model)

This is the main thing that's putting me off at the moment. :(

Any comments please.

Thanks.

Spooky:
There was an issue with a lack of Locktite being applied to the bolt that holds  drive cog to the pump.  This seems to be only affecting the earlier models (pre 1999) ... More details here.

On the plus side, the people I know who've had the problem have had it sorted under warranty.  (Some got complete new engines)

A lot of them were sorted out via a recall too.
