I think the solid front axle was dropped by Toyota in 1985-86 or there abouts in favour of IFS. It possible to swap over an IFS if really want to. Hilux 4x4 pickups are pretty good offroaders (from what I seen at playdays etc) and might prove more reliable in the longrun than 110.

certainley get my vote, UK lux`s had solid axle up to fairly recently (mk4 97ish??)

mine had a 3" lift, 31 x 10.5 15`s and was fantastic offroad, only probs been that the backend is a tad light, but simply sling in some ballast if you need it!

parts are so cheap its funny! www.milneroffroad.co.uk are worth checking out!

i would have another one, the only probs i found were the start of corrosion (on a H reg!) and parking upset a few people as i frequently hung the rear over peoples bonnets.... all good fun!

personal choice would be a mk 3. dont worry about the age, the condition matters more. mileage isnt too much of an issue either, again, as long as its been loved at some point. mine had 160k and drove better than my m reg fourtrak of just over 100k.

get the diesel

check rear arches, the rear corner under the lights, inner arch fronts, cills and door bottoms for rust.

stick some good mud tyres on it and you`ll be laughing

ask drum about whitworth!

very impressed

You might be right (shows how much I Know)...should read Surfs and 4Runners lost the solid front axle after about 1986. You'll be hard pushed to find a MK1 Surf or 4Runner this old though.
