i must have the only defender that runs cold all the time, the needle only goes just past cold and its got a new thermostat in it , the rad is half covered up as well with a carpet tile ,all pipes are luke warm ,it does have an oil cooler so that might be part to blame  brrr

drmike:
I would change the thermostat as it's cheap and probably what you need to do! It does the engine no good to run cold all the time and the fact that the heater blows hot means little IMHO.

:(  :(  :( UPDATE --- UPDATE --- UPDATE :(  :(  :(

I'm now getting through coolant much faster and horror of horrors I think its coming out of the flamin exhaust (no, the exhaust is not on fire!!).

Does that mean the cylinder head gasket??? What are the other options??

if its the gasket should I keep running it and what's it gonna cost me??

Thanks,

David
