xj on gas

Pike:
Our lass has decided to buy a 4.0 XJ (doesnt know which one yet!) shes had a go in one and loves it,so her company car is going, the problem is fuel consumption so we are gonna put it on gas,I rang a place today in Leeds (cleckheaton)and they quoted me £2100+vat for one with an underslung tank, that seemed a bit pricey to me or am I wrong? ive seen different systems, which one do you think will suit my needs?without paying £2100..............cheers.......ps im usually on the discovery forum ...sorry

Jim-Willy:
Probably a stupid question but wouldn't it be easier to buy one that is on gas already, they are getting a bit old to be investing that kind of cash in.  The daft consumption means there are a few about.  I take it you know about the terminal rot the XJ is famous for......

Pike:
its not me you have to tell, its our lass,id go for a V8 disco on gas anytime,at least I could b***dy repair it on the driveway!!!!.............ooh I bet this has opened a can of worms

Jim-Willy:
Don't get me wrong I loved my XJ, very fast but the rot is frightening.  And 12mpg is a killer so i can see the attraction of gas.  And parts prices......

Cherry Bomb:
Go for a younger one.  Post 97, they're galvanised so don't suffer like the older ones.  I think they started doing it earlier, but not sure when, but I do no that the face lift (post '97) certainly is.

Otherwise, check around the rain gutter on the edge of the roof line and the boot floor, that seems to be where the early ones go first.

As for LPG.  look for one that's already been done, there's plenty of them about.  If you do buy one and then get it converted, go for a single point kit; the multi point (which I'm guessing you've been quoted for going by the price) is a bit unnessesary on an XJ.

I run mine on gas and it's now cheeper to do long trips in it than in SWMBO's 1.6 Focus.
