Help needed with paint
MOTORSPORT_SAFETY:
Hi all
Just found out etch primer and hammerite dont like to mate so am now a bit stuck
I was going to paint all the cappings on my 109 in satin black and spray them rather than brush paint them.
Just had a go on one of the rear light cappings and its reacted rather badly.
I have just finished spraying my bonnet and its looking rather nice but dont want to go any further untill I know how to proceed.
I know someone out there will have painted there landy what did you guys use.
I would rather spray what I can as apposed to brushing but I supppose I can brush it and flat it off after just alot more work than id like to have time for really.
All the best guys
Paul
Budgie:
IIRC Hammerite make an undercoat for galvanised metal that their paint will go onto. I think it's water based and, although it's a brush on, should be fine for spraying.
Here you go: http://www.hammerite.com/uk/products/ps_special_metals_primer.html :D
strapping young lad:
put some red-oxide on first
its what my dad put on exposed steel when he built our hay trailer years ago
its still there now with no rust
but weighs about 5 tons! :O
Edge:
Yeah, hammerite do a primer and a special metals primer. I used the special metals primer on my tree/rock sliders even though they are steel..... worked a treat. :D
