EARLY WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER

EARLY WARNING of Heavy Snow and Blizzards Issued by the Met Office at 09:41 on Friday, 10 March

OVERALL RISK ASSESSMENT: The probability of disruption due to severe weather conditions in part of the United Kingdom within the next 60 hours is 70 percent.
This is the first warning of disruption due to Heavy Snow and Blizzards.
The Met Office is forecasting a period of heavier snow across many northern areas of the United Kingdom for a time over the weekend. The greatest risk of disruption will be focussed over higher ground where up to 15cm of snow could accumulate and drift in strong winds. At lower levels and across other parts of the country, the risk of disruption is much less. Milder air pushing in from the west will turn the snow to rain so any disruption will be transient.
There is some uncertainty with regards to the timing and amount of snow but the risk is considered high enough to issue an early warning for this event.
This warning will be updated by 10:00 on Saturday 11th March 2006.
