I've often wondered what happened on that day too. Until last week, a saab forum which i also frequent had its highest number of concurrent users on that day.

There were a fair number of members online, but as Gords mentioned earlier... the search engines have little bits of softwre called 'spiders' which visit websites, recording content for their indexes. These will show up in the users online (normally as guests)
In the situation where you get a few of the spiders indexing the site at once, you can get an artificially high number of visitors.
So, no.. there weren't 181 real people online I'm afraid
