Steering Swivel Gaitors

(1/2) > >>

Jim-Willy:
Na then.  What are your opinions / experience of these gaitors?

I had the Britpart rubber ones fitted in June 05 before going to Sweden and one is torn already  .  Are they worth the bother.  Someone told me the army use leather ones, are these available and any good, and more importantly how much?

Tigger:
I wouldn't bother.

The danger with them (just like the rubber boots on dampers) is that unless they are *totally* sealed... they just trap mud, grit and water and accelerate wear / rust on the swivels.

Andy the Landy:
I agree with Tim - dont bother. You also feel less inclined to check the swivels for leaks if they are covered up. I binned mine :D

gecko:
the army used to use um not anymore   think tim sead it all

hobbit:
If you really want to use them, you can but they would need to be checked and clean on a regular basis, so its swings and roundabouts really

You can get the leather ones, drain hole in the bottom and lace up tops, give them a good long soak in old engine oil, drain and dry them before fitting.

Depends on how often you check underneath on levels etc
