Range Rover Blues:
It's done that way so that the bolts are held captive against the back of the flange, so you only need to get in with one spanner.  The front is the other way around so that you can remove the bolts to slide the prop in more easily.

defuzz:
hmmm can't for the life of me undo trhe bolt, it just starts turning the transmission, even when in gear and diff locked.

Wanderer:
Chock the back wheels. Hand brake on. IN 1st gear. Low box and centre diff locked.

It shouldn't turn when you've done all that.
