MOT Question

(1/3) > >>

robbie:
does a 1985 have to have a reversing light, and if one is fitted, does it have to function?

If it doesnt need one, are we OK in taking the bulb out of the housing.

(yeeh I know, I am being lazy cos its cold..... and dont wanna be climbing under the car to sort the switch out)

muddyweb:
I stand to be corrected, but I don't think you need one for an MOT

That's how I see it as well, it's not a legal lighting requirement, therefore not testable.

Of course if it's (as I read into your post) showing a white light to the rear, that's certainly illegal.
Not too sure if it falls under the realms of the 'Road Traffic Act', or 'Construction & Uses'??

defenderdan:
I don't know if a '95 needs a reverse light, but if it is fitted it needs to work. Either remove it or tape it up (or ideally fix it).

I'm not sure that is even true.   I don't think I've ever seen a tester check the reversing light.
