The impact gun may not do it, tried it on my disco on a wheel swap, still had to revert to the 3/4 drive socket & bar and 16 stone of bouncing hobbit on the end of it

Cheers Chris you ok??

I have been over today and manged despite the Rain to Wire Brush the Wings and Seal them again..

I also went for it with the Bulk Head Rail..I decided to Rake it all out and it has a nice hole below the Front Vent Flaps channled out to take a 5 Mil new rail when i find the metal from a scrappy..

I have found a guy who deals in metals etc and now i get all my welding plate etc from him whole 2 and 3 mil Panels that have come out of places like factorys ect and at about £3.00 per 6x6 foot panel ya cannot grump!!

i will need about 5 mil to do this or 4 not sure yet

any way i have measured up for the Rail and it is a a process of undoing the retainer Bolts along the rail inside the cab only 4 of them getting the correct gauge metal slide through the inner cab after pre drilling four holds to hold the bolts inside the cab and then weld to outer Bulkhead and then another fabricated peice of metal over the other and weld in place and that will be it!!

I say it with ease but it will be a fiddly job i have had to remove the vent flaps and rubbers to get acccess to the Bulkhead properley indside Engine bay so i can get the Angle Grinder in to clean up the surface to weld.

I will let you know how it goes

today cut away the Rear Crossmember today what a Pants job to do awkward to cut away..loads of Trimming to do now to put the new one on at end of month as the pennys dont run it it at the mo..

Still it will be nicely prepped ready to weld in place..

Started to sand back the Lower Rear Tub and bonnet and rear lower tailgate section...thank god thats all i have to sand on it layers of crud paint wise..I have been saved doing the upper sides and Hard top as i am getting a 88" at the end of the month and i am going to probally swap over the nice canvass it has on it for the Lightweight Hard Top and sand the Hard top down at a later stage..

It dont help havng the Lightweight under a car canopy that is open both ends ..like a wind Tunnel..

The one I got from paddocks was the ones with the chassis pieces on had to trip back as I didn't want to cut away perfectly good chassis, then welded up ok, used the excess to over plate the joins for strength

the actual unit was ok though

Just make sure the cross member is vertical with the tub though

Hobbs

I had to cut a strip off the extensions as they were too long ..
I was having to get a a piece of wood lump hammer to bang it into place and open the extensions to get it to fit correct

Right dam game..

Weld it up  tommorow and then onto the new outriggers from Paddocks...mmm

Gonna fabricate a Top Rail for the bulk head i got some good steel to cut and shut..

another update ..

I sanded all the bodywork down today with 80 Grit...yes..80 grit it was the only thing to budge layered paint and it did the trick great!!

Do we think 120 or 100 next????...any advice on finishing grade paper??

I have the rag top on now and after sanding down to finish it will be primer...trouble is ihave heared etch primer is espensive and does not go far??

i have been told that Hamerite do a " special Metal Primer????...

or indeed would i need it as it is not down to the bare metal just flated off the old paintwork like..?

I have fitted a rear tailgate now which looks much better ...funny how the Lightweights look so better with a rag top on...

i thinks its gotta be Green when finished ...original i know..

any comments on finishing grade paper welcome..ps am i right in thinking wet and dry would be best..

if you havent stripped the old paint right off you wont need etch primer just normal stuff. if youve took it back to bare metal the you need an etch primer or the hammerite stuff.

well fitted the fabricated Top Rail..and it dont look bad..not perfect ..but not bad..

Welded it all in place and made some top covers for inside cab as well

i then sanded the body all over with 120 the 140 so super fine now...
i gave her a Top coat of Primer and i will give her another two coats of primer then Top Coat..but i cannot find a good supplier for Nato Matt Green...any more suggestions?

I am itching to get the Top Coat done then for the inside..I must say from what she looked like she dont half look bad now..more work than i originally thought but worth it to see it come on now.

I keep forgetting to take the camera with me to the Mother In Laws as that is were she is being stored ..i will get some soon
