Yet an other tyre question

(1/2) > >>

MTyrrell:
I doped by  the local 4x4 tyre place to price up a set of new colways for the 110, at the moment she's running a very tired set of 255/85 Wildcat's.

The chap at the tyre place told me colway don't do 255/85's and only BF Goodrich make that size, at which point i mumbled something about getting back to him and left.

Is he just trying to sell me the most expensive tyres he can get a hold or is it a really obscure tyre size?

Don't want to change the rims and can't afford BFG prices  :(

Which bit number refers to the rim size?

defenderdan:
It is an unusual size. I don't know if bfg mt's are the only tyres you can get in that size but they are the only ones that get advertised. It's a shame really 'cos i like that size of tyre.

The Fat Controller:
have a look at their web page

or

neither list your size

Jim-Willy:
16 is the rim size, 255 is the tyre width in mm and 85 is the height of the tyre in % of the width ie 85% of 255mm from the rim to the outer edge of the tyre :?

Wierd size, very big i would have thought (Any Pics), a Defender i woulda said the common sizes are 235/85 on or if ya insist on the wideboy look some 265/75.  Both will be shorter than what you have though.  Might be worth considering dropping to 15" rims so you can buy cheap tyres of similar height lik 33" 10.50 or summat.

Eeyore:
255/85s look magnificent on a Defender! But no photos, I'm afraid. Several of the YORC lads used to run them on challenge machines.

They are an uncommon tyre size and carcasses are hard to come by. I'm sure I've seen one company offer a remould in that size, but I wouldn't know who that would have been, unfortunately.

Yes, BTF make them, they are about 20 quid more than the 235/85 - which makes them costly, but no less so than any other quality tyre in that kinda size. Still a lot more than a remould, though.....

cheers
