The Fat Controller:
don't forget that faulty alternaters can give the same symptoms

Andy the Landy:
quick 5 mins at work today and removing the fuse nearest the bulkhead the lights go out. Am I to presume its a relay type thingy and not ignition switch :?

Andy the Landy:
Still need some pointers on this 1.
Still have oil pressure light on and low fuel light on with ignition off.
Turn ignition on and heat the plugs the charge light comes on (as it should) but the oil and low fuel lights stay on. all lights go out when engine running. Stop the engine, and the oil and low fuel light stay on again with ignition off :?  Pulling out either fuse 1 or 4 clicks off the relay and light go out. Sometimes waggling the fuse holder turns the dash lights off.
Fuse 1 and 4 have a wire that links the 2 together - would putting an on off switch between them be feasable.
Have a feeling it could be the ignition switch but am loathe to spend 65quid to find out its not that whereas an on/off switch is better value at 50p (yep - I'm originally a Yorshireman  )

hobbit:
have a look on the back of the fusebox, see if there is any bad connections floating around

btw if it is the switch you can fit a dash mounted key ignition switch, works as well if not better than the column mounted one, lot cheaper too.

Andy the Landy:
Ta for all advice :D  Temporarily sorted with an on/off switch wired through the fusebox :D
