Welder Settings - Help!
Brother Ted:
Hi All,
We've come accross some unwanted holes on the landy and have borrowed a welder (pictured below) to try and sort the problem.
Only problem is, none of us know how to weld... ie. we've never picked up a welding torch.
With the picture below, can anyone tell me what all of these knobs should be set to?
we know which is the wire feed and which is the amperage, but thats all.
Thanks!
Brother Ted.
ps: maybe too much gas?

PM sent :)

i repair these machines for a living. do you need some help?
Brother Ted:
well we're unsure of all the settings that the knobs should be set to.
its 0.8mm wire onto 0.8mm metal (discovery sill) and its being done in a garage rather than outdoors.
could you let us know what each should be set to? as we seem to be making holes rather than welding them in!
thanks!
Brother Ted.
LOFTY:
I hate to say it, but using a mig well, you dont go buy the settings, its all in the sound of the arc, and the finish of the bead.
If weld is lumpy and not penitrating=not enough amps, and possible to much wire, and vice-versa.
Just get some scrap and play, making sure area clean and no rust.
But please think twice about structural chassis welding, if you are not confident.
If you were in mid devon, i would come and help.
