mpg

now I'm not nomally one to  ask about mpg figures as they are as always dirver and cehicle specific.... but today is an exception, after having one of those days where the neighbour tells you his v8 range rover gets 20mpg, and wondering why i bother with a slow 200 tdi 90 that gets about 23 mpg, i wonder what you people get

my truck is basically a defender 200tdi (earlier car later engine), 2" lift and is a pickup with roll cage, steering guard (no idea if that affects aero dynamics though!)  on 265/75/16 BFG MTs.

So is 23 mpg pants?  (this is long distance constant 60mpg type speeds mixed with a bit of urban)

a defender.....aerodynamic   .....ya avin a laugh arntcha lol. y go n stick a v8 in wen u can play submarines with the 200 in ......stick a disco 200 in and get a little over 28mpg that is what im gettin out of mine but i didnt use a steve parker conversion .....i used my brain n a disco gearbox....alot more room then for the exhaust....so you have alot more free flow exhaust wich doesnt choke the engine 2 death and lack its power and decrease the mpg. that is what i wud do in your shoes......cuz i did it. u just need 2 b a gud fabricator.

Jim-Willy:
I would say that is rubbish.  Mine is a 300tdi wi a auto box and standard Defender transfer box and i get late 20's.

my disco would only get 25mpg and that was if i was being really careful.. but i blame the tyres (grizzlies)....

If u used a disco g/b that puts the levers further back as you'd have to use disco bell housing, what did ya do with the middle seat?

Can't see having more room for an exhaust is that much of a sellin point tho!

Now I think transfer box is lower than standard but i'm told olver/under drive doesnt really make any differnece to consumption just noise when cruising.   Maybe that makes a diff, maybe it dont.

Matt_H:
well i have a def and a disco exhaust i'm looking at and the disco one is roughly the same size - only a few mm bigger for the disco one.. it's close to 2" so can't see that strangling perfomance or mpg.... pleae explain more!
