Off the 42 at the NEC, bear right onto A45 for Coventry, stay in left hand lane to come down to Stonebridge Island (Malt Shovel on RHS) turn left at island onto A452 follow signs to M6, over M6 roundabout, over next roundabout (A446) down dual carriageway parallel to M42. Turn right at next roundabout (police station) up hill, The Bell is on left approx 100yds after zebra crossing.

Exactly same route I was going to use.
Have used this route many times over the last 13yrs that I have been driving trucks.
