LOST DRIVE
LADY IN A LANDY:
Hi, Hope someone can help me with this i have a W reg auto TD5 the other day it started to feel a bit funny a bit like it was misfiring this got worse as i went up a steep hill when i stopped at traffic lights the m and s lights started flashing and i had no drive the engine was runing and i could rev it as normal but it just wouldnt move. I was able to roll back from the lights and after swiching off for a while it started and pulled away but still felt funny underpowered and jumpy drive.Later that day i drove it again it seems ok but i have kept the speed right down. Anyone got any ideas, i would be greatful for ideas before i give in and take it to the garage. :?
Richie_EB4:
Could try checking the oil in your auto box...........does sound like its low.
Sharpshooter:
A freind of mine has just had asimilar problem with his 2001 TD5 Disco.
Where it had been on the garage forcourt, and not driven for a few weeks, there is apparently a plunger in the box, that when you select drive, diverts the oil. This had got stuck.
The garage changed the seals on it, and it cured the problem.
It was also hessitant to go itnto gear when selected. It took about 10 seconds to go into gear.
Range Rover Blues:
Sounds like its ready for an oil change, the 'box that is. When the oil is hot it gets thinner, so your problem improves once it's cooled down. If an oil change doesn't cure it then it's time for proffesional help, I wouldn't tinker with an auto box (I'd get a second hand one).
LADY IN A LANDY:
Thanks guys i am hoping its just the oil level anything else sounds expensive. I did try to check the level in the gearbox but there does'nt seem to be a dipstick under the bonnet im sure there was a gearbox dipstick on the older disco i had before, am i just daft or missing something how do u check the level or do u think i should just take it straight to a garage.
