Being coil sprung never toook much notice of air bag info I am not 100% sure but I seem to remember that you can rip the airbags off the top and bottom plates very easy.  This may be why (just a guess though)

The shocks limit the travel downward of the axle.  If you support the truck by the axle, no worries.  I've changed 'em without taking the wheels off in the driveway.  :)

So if I put it up on ramps I should be ok?

Yup.  Open the hatch to disable the auto ride height adjustment, also.  Good practice anytime you go to get under the beast.
