So come on people...your not selling me the 90 experience very well....is it more comfortable than a series to drive, does it suffer with the same steering (or lack of) problems, whats the performance and economy like??
ps found out it has POWER STEERING aswell!!!
should i do the 90 up and bid farewell to the widow, or should i do a quick tart up of the 90 and make a killing??

Yes
does it suffer with the same steering (or lack of) problems
no comment (lift without modded radius arms, at the moment, so mine is a little vague)
whats the performance
200Tdi with aftermarket intercooler , I dont bother with 1st gear anymore. Cruise at 70+ on the motorway although 65 is more comfortable. Pulls like a train.
8) :D :P
economy like??
I was getting 28mpg until I put some veg oil in that hadnt been properly filtered. Still trying to sort that out.

Depends what engine is in it really. If its a N/A they are painfully slow but you are used to that me thinks  . TD is better but has a frightening reputation for blowing up. They ride nicely and the steering should be fine, mine is. expect mid to late 20's in mpg depending on what nick the motor is in and how heavy you are with the loud pedal.

Hmmmm so performance is up, economy is too (getting low to mid 20's in the s3) comfort is about the same...so really its down to whether i can cope with paying £160 a year as the widow is tax exempt...
whats the story with the Td, as depending on who you talkto they either last forever , or blow up every 3 weeks....even tho' they all seem to be in the 150,000 mile mark...
Also whats the widow worth in the current market, cos unfortuantely if I do the 90 up i will have to sell her cos 3 cars and a bike just isnt viable..
What can I expect to pay for a rear crossmember, and possibly a brake overhaul??and rear prop as these seem to be the major things - everything else appears to be minor.
Stormin:
The TD is not a bad engine if looked after properly. Regular oil and filter changes a must. My 90 was a TD before I bought it and hadn't been serviced well. Took the pet and ran on it's own engine oil when the turbo went haywire. Engine self distructed and was fitted with a Perkins. Now with Isuzu 2.8TD. Should have fitted the gearbox as well.
Comfort wise better than the Series. Especially with the Citrone BX seats I have fitted. Power steering much better for the ageing muscles and handling with radial tyres very good.
28mpg should be attainable. A brake overhaul, doing it yourself (get an Ezzee Bleed kit), should not cost to much. If I'd had more workshop space and less to do, I'd have got that 90 myself. :(
