Wheel Bearing

(1/1)

cjcarlos1977:
Hello there,

I had me Front wheel bearing fall apart on me the other day. So ive taken it all apart to fit the new one to find that the landrover workshop manual shows 2 nuts with a washer each side to hold it all in place. ie the first to tighten it up and the second as a float or sommat like that. Mine how ever only seems to have the one nut and one washer with the little lug in. Does anyone know if this is correct and also where i can get a new nut from as the thread has worn on my only one.

Cheers

Carl

Pete Twissell:
There should be two nuts with a tab washer between. When adjusting, be aware that it is the OUTER nut that defines the adjustment. There is always some clearance in the threads, so if you adjust the inner nut, when you tighten the outer nut it will push the inner further against the bearing and overload it. I made a thin spanner so that I could adjust the inner nut, nip up the outer to the inner (with tab washer between) and then back off the inner nut against the outer until tight. If you try to adjust with the nuts tight together, you will break the inside tab off the washer and render it useless.

It's not as complex as I've probably made it sound. Once you have all the (clean) parts in front of you, all will become clear.

All depends on who and where you buy it from.
