200 tdi fuel problem ??

(1/2) > >>

muddymart:
I was coming down the a1 this afternoon,as i was going up the hill it wouldnt accelerate and there was no power at all, and got the cutting out feeling, but it just ticked over, so i pulled onto the hard shoulder .and it started revving up again, and off we went,

Quarter of a tank of diesel.

Any clues?

Thanks

filter blockage? water in diesel? drawing air in? dodgy pick up pipe? dodgy fuel sender showing more than you have?
Has it died since or been ok

muddymart:
yep, been fine since

Blimey I had exactly the same symptoms on Saturday and filling it up with 5 gallons of diesel sorted it so it was definitely a fuel take up issue.

As was said either the gauge is a liar and the warning light is honest or the take up isn't right in the tank.

When it's a bit warmer I'm going to use the drain plug on the fuel filter to see what comes out and maybe take the drain plug out of the fuel tank to see how much water comes out. When I did this on the RR I got over 2 pints of water before petrol.

The biggest problem with the discovery tank is the sender unit/pick up pipe is steel and sat in a rescess in the tank.........this means any water/mud will get stuck ontop of the tank and will rot the sender unit.

This causes the pick up pipe to rust and get VERY small holes in which draw air when running.........at a slow engine speed there will be enough diesel getting through but when you need the power and full throttle you get far more air/fuel to the filter/pump and thus reduced power.

The senders arent cheap to £115 for LR
