question from holland
Bulli:
Robbie,So why lift the body to fit larger tyres when you can increase the height of the suspension...which is a benefit as it makes it work better?btw i have 35's on
They havent got the clearance to allow any upward movement which is a poor way of using you suspension. Fitting big tyres is easy - getting it to work without fouling everything and bettering the original set up isnt.Good luck, can we have a few post offroading piccies?
Range Rover Blues:
A body lift is a serious alternative to a suspension lift, it won't raise the C of G anything like as badly as a suspension lift and it doen't entail all the problems that suspension llifts do ie castor angle/ cardan prop etc.
that said it doesn't help with breakover angle :?
For a serious lift of 4+inches, some body lift and some suspension lift seems to be the way to go for many people.
Bulli:
Yes if thats is what you NEED
but you dont, mine has 35's on with a 2 inch lift and some thought. Those arches havent been removed anywhere near as much as required. RRB if you lift by the same ammount with suspension or body lift the cog is exactly the same.....the way forward with suspension is to increase downward travel whilst maintaining the correct ammount of upward movement.
Kobus , what have you done with the edges? Myabe if you had put 2 same size tyres on the car it might not have looked so dodgy - you need to remove more arch and get some flares on it for Devon 4x4. Otherwize when the tyre moves up it will remove the bodywork itself, you should also look at doing a camel cut to the rear quarter. As the axle moves upwards it also moves back and will dmaage both tyre and bodywork.
I stick with my original statement body lift is a poor way of creating space.
rollazuki:
Ive never understood the need for a body lift unless you are goung huuuuge with tyres.
It only serves 1 purpose, and makes a [!Expletive Deleted!] of brake pipes and steering shafts.
A suspension lift will gain the height, and will hopefully (with correct shocks etc) give a healthy increase in articulation.
On a disco why bother. just get the the wheelarch extension kit, trim the arches right back to make room, and get a 2" lift kit on the suspension.
No dramatic castor changes, no excess height, and you can stuff a 35" in the new arches.
Body lifts are for show and shine trucks.

Show and shine :(biglaugh): :(bloodshot): I wouldn't say that...Mine aint no show and shine :(biglaugh): I still cant see what 35's fit under a 2" suspension lift without major cutting of the arches.simex 35's wouldnt.. Also a 2" body lift you have the extra height from the wheels which then lift the axel ..plus the increase in articulation as long a you have cut the arches :(biglaugh):
