ah, sorry J-W I didn't explain what kind of skip it was! mea culpa, yes, tis my workaday hack; I'm a little miffed, as I've only had it a month or so, and I feel a bit of a muppet, cos I did suspect that it might be the water pump, when it wasn't the alternator fan making that godawful racket, but didn't realise the damage potential!!  :(bigcry):
It's a 1400 petrol BTW.
