Headlamp problem

mac:
Ladies and Gents, Got a bit of a problem, any 1 seen this before.
1995 TD Disco. Intermittant problem, especially when its cold. Main & dipped
headlights inoperative, no dim/dip headlights plus no headlight flashers
(although the main beam indicator light comes on and stays on). I have
checked fuseable link, input to headlight switch, input to Headlampfuses
4,5,10 &11 and changed the dim/dip relay. Sidelights OK. Anyone got an idea
where the main head/dip relay is? Currently only got the Haynes usless
manual  (which doesn't even show a main/dip relay) but I am trying to source
a manual, probably from e-bay. This car keeps on leaving me stranded at
work, so any help gratefully appreciated.
Cheers

Disco Inferno:
sounds similar to the problem i had when the headlight stalks began burning out.

dracula:
I would check the stalk first, common on older Disco's

ChrisW:
Without discounting the stalk completely, the earlier 200 models did not use relays to switch the feeds to the headlamps, the 300 did - as a result the stalks on some 200's can tend to go into meltdown.

If possible, when the fault is occurring, I would try connecting additional earths to the lamps to see if that alleviated the fault.

I've found on mine (early 300) that a few issues have started which tend to be more earth path related than switchgear

feenix:
Mine did that a couple of times just after I bought her. There was some heavy corrosion on the connector at the back of the headlamp - cleaned/scraped it off and the lamps are ok now.
HTH :)
