Whats that "CLUNK"??

<< < (3/3)

Skywalker:
Got a similar problem on lad's 110, (1995 300Tdi)

Just replaced rear half shafts and drive flanges which has improved it a lot, but clunk is still there.  When you move the vehicle backwards and forwards a bit and watch watch the propshaft / rear diff flange it takes up drive, then spins a little .......  and "clunk"  then carries on OK?

Am thinking wear in rear diff .............  anyone any ideas

Bear in mind it's done 190k miles

Just been to the garage, the bill for work carried out on my 90 was waiting for me, big shock, £801 over what i was expecting.
Anyway back to the CLUNK.....
They checked it over and suggested everything is perfect, apparently it is the new springs moving/turning when i bounce out of a pot hole. The clunk during acceleration was no where to be heard this morning, only when i hit a bump a little hard & then its as i leave the bump not when i hit it.
Anyone got any recommendations on how to secure the top of the springs to prevent them dropping during offroading???
Ive heard there are some sort of bracket you can buy, but i may have misheard the conversation. (still getting to grips with scottish accent). Or should i just get somee dislocation cones?
