Fuel economy record

(1/3) > >>

MTyrrell:
We have been working on an interesting project at work,

Volkswagen are going for the world fuel economy record in a new golf. They are 5 days in to the challenge now and are getting about 51Mpg at the moment. Now if i could get the landy to return that sort of economy.

We were given the task of tracking the record and support car's so the live position can be displayed on the website as well as calculating and relaying the official mileage using GPS.

Our fitter, who is a VW enthusiast, wasn't to happy about drilling holes in to the body work of two brand spanking new top speck passat's and a new golf to fit the satellite and GPS aerials. It's backed by shell so its a mony no object venture :?

You can have a look at there progress here: www.fuelchallenge.com

woody:
me thinks a bloke in a discovery got 50mpg
sure it was in a LandRover mag last year
wil check when i get home tonight
unless someone beats me 2 it

beast5680:
he must have been at the top of a big hill and coasting down then to get 50mpg

Rich_P:
I think it was the one with it being driven at a constant 35mph or something like that for 200 miles, in france (cause their roads are much quieter than here).

Manicminer:
A mate of mine always boasts that he gets over 50 mpg in his peugot powered 2.0 Suzuki Grand Vitara. He also claims to have squeezed nearly 70 mpg at speeds of 35 - 40 mph coming home from Essex late one night when he was low on fuel.
